Social Secretary Report – October 2016

After a few last-minute cancellations, ten members joined the survey trip on Saturday 15th October.  We visited the Traveller’s Rest at Kilburn which had re-opened with new licensees in September, the Old Oak at Horsley Woodhouse, the Poet & Castle at Codnor and the Greenhill Tavern and Red Lion at Riddings.

The following beers were noted –

Traveller’s Rest – Marston’s Pedigree

Old Oak – Isle of Purbeck Solar Power, Salamander Plebian Porter, Bingley Centennial, Coppiceside Scary Cow, Hairy Brewers Dead Beard IPA & Blonde Bombshell, Bottlebrook Sand in the Wind and Turning Japanese, Totally Brewed Papa Jangles Voodoo Stout, Leadmill American Girl, Old Oak Bitter, Pacific Gem, Heanor Pale & Autumn Goddess

Poet & Castle – Ashover Littlemoor Citra, Poets Tipple & Red Lion, Beacon Hill Amber Ale, Sharps Doombar, Yeovil Ruby, Titanic Cherry Dark, Sandiways Hop Sepia

Greenhill Tavern – Marston’s Draught Bass, Falstaff The Good, The Bad and The Drunk, Sharps Doombar

Red Lion – Thornbridge Jaipur, Sharps Doombar, Navigation Columbus

The next survey trip will be held on Saturday 12th November.

Derek, our usual driver, was unable to drive us again due to ill health and Neil Barratt who owns the bus company does not feel he can provide the service for us any longer after the November trip.  He drove us for the October trip but is not usually free on a Saturday night and he is unable to find any other drivers to cover.  We will have to discuss this at the next Branch Meeting and try to come up with ideas of how to continue running the trips or, if this is not possible, how to collect sufficient beer scores to enable us to choose entries for the Good Beer Guide.

Anne Kennedy organised an Amber Ramble on Sunday 25th September, setting off from Kilburn and visiting the Beer Metropolis bar in Little Eaton, the Townhouse Tap in Duffield, the Wheel in Holbrook and the Angels in Belper.  Anne has also organised a day trip to Sheffield on Saturday 22nd October and details have been circulated.
