Social Secretary Report – November 2016

Fifteen members joined the survey trip on Saturday 12th November.  We visited the Miner’s Arms at Alfreton for the first time and everyone was impressed by the pub itself and the beer on offer – it has recently changed hands and been extensively refurbished by the new owners.  Next we called at the Victoria in Alfreton, the Gate Inn at Swanwick, the Beehive/Honeypot on Peasehill, Ripley, the George on Lowes Hill and finally The Talbot, also under new management with a variety of beers from different breweries and in the process of being redecorated.

The following beers were noted –

Miner’s Arms – Titanic Plum Porter, Marston’s Pedigree, Lincolnshire Miner’s Pale

Victoria – Sharp’s Doombar, Castle Rock Walrus

Gate Inn – Sharp’s Doombar & Atlantic, Timothy Taylor Golden Best

Beehive/Honeypot – Dancing Duck Nice Weather, Marston’s Draught Bass, Falstaff Fistful of Hops & Darkside, Pentrich Kiama, Blue Monkey Infinity

George Inn – Hardy Hanson Olde Trip, Belhaven Bridge to Nowhere

Talbot – Morgan Ales And Its Goodnight.., Derby Kolsch, Falstaff Darkside, Amber Barnes Wallis, Leatherbritches Ashbourne IPA, Ringwoood Forty-niner

As mentioned in the last report, Barratts Coaches were not able to commit to supplying a bus and driver for Saturday night survey trips next year so I have been looking at alternatives but there is little interest from other companies.  Amber Valley Community Transport were able to provide reasonably priced quotes for various itineraries (their prices would be based on mileage) but could not confirm that they could supply a driver on a regular basis.  However, Neil Barratt recently suggested changing the survey trips to Friday nights as he is confident he could do that for us.  None of the members who have attended trips over the last year had a problem with this idea so we will run it for a trial period from February 2017.  I will circulate a list of dates for survey trips in the New Year.

I intend to arrange a pub walk around Nottingham on 27th, 28th or 29th December and will confirm details once I get any feedback on which date would be preferable to members wishing to join.

Anne Kennedy is organizing an Amber Ramble on 7th or 8th January – details will be circulated when the date has been confirmed.
