Social Secretary Report – March 2017

Eleven members joined the survey trip on Friday 3rd March. We visited the Hunter Arms,
Kilburn, the Marquis of Ormonde, Codnor Inn, French Horn and Poet and Castle, Codnor and
the Thorn Tree, Waingroves. We found a very good selection of beers all in good condition.
At the Poet and Castle we were told that the present managers would be leaving very soon as
the pub was being taken over by Lincoln Green Brewery and would no longer be owned by Ashover Brewery.
The following beers were noted –

Hunter Arms – Marston’s Draught Bass, Castle Rock Elsie Mo, Oakham Citra and Green
Devil, Timothy Taylor Landlord.

Marquis of Ormonde – Tiny Rebel Hank, Wishbone Kazbek

Thorn Tree – Northallerton Yorkshire Gold, Nottingham Brewery Legend, Full Mash Dr Gilleys,
Westgate Atlantic Hop

Codnor Inn – Hobsons Old Prickly Hedge Grog, AJ’s Ales SPA, Maxim Andersons Best
Scotch, Urban Huntsman

French Horn – Greene King Abbot Ale, IPA, Morland Old Speckled Hen

Poet & Castle – Magpie Jay, Ashover Poet’s Tipple, Littlemoor Citra, Slaters Haka, Batemans
XXXB and Hooker, Everards Old Original, Prospect Big John

Anne Kennedy led an Amber Ramble on Saturday 25 th February and visited the Old Oak, the
Queens Head and Brewery Tap at Marlpool, the Bell at Smalley and Redemption Ale House at Heanor.

We will be visiting Burton on Trent CAMRA Festival on Friday 31st March for the afternoon
session, travelling by train from Alfreton or Belper or the 9’s bus to Derby then the X38 Express
to Burton. All members are welcome to join us there from 11am onwards.

We did a pub walk around Derby on the afternoon/evening of Saturday 18 th March and 18
people turned up despite the wet and windy weather. We enjoyed a very good selection of
beers at The Tap, Exeter, Peacock Inn, Smithfield Arms, Alexandria, Brunswick and finally the
Babington Arms where we had a meal before heading home. Another Derby pub walk is
planned for Saturday 19th August when we will cover the other half of the city centre.

The next minibus survey trip will be held on Friday 7th April.

Debbie Williams has kindly offered to manage the trip on Friday 5th May when I will be away.
