Social Secretary Report – March 2015

Beer Survey Trips

16 members went on the survey trip on Saturday 14th March, again including two first-timers, and visited The Grapes at Belper, Black Boy and Eagle Tavern at Heage, The Spanker Inn at Nether Heage, Canal Inn at Bullbridge and George Inn at Lower Hartshay.  We were very impressed by the range and quality of beers at The Spanker and very pleased to see The Canal back on form after a recent change in ownership, with good beer, plenty of customers and a welcoming atmosphere.   Phil & Lynn at The George generously let us share their hot buffet which was very welcome at the end of the night.  We were very pleased to have Derek Sellors back as our driver as he has been unable to drive due to ill health for the past few months.

The following beers were noted –

The Grapes – Abbeydale Deception, Marston’s Pedigree & Jedediah’s Brew, Ringwood Boondoggle, Banks Sunbeam

Black Boy – Marston’s Pedigree and Black Boy Bitter, Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold, Springhead Robin Hood + 4 real ciders

Eagle Tavern – Marston’s Pedigree, Wychwood Hobgoblin, Sharps Doom Bar + 1 real cider

Spanker Inn – Fullers London Pride, St Austell Tribute, Oakham Citra, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber

Canal Inn – Dancing Duck Abduction, Marston’s Draught Bass

George Inn – Ruddles County, Marston’s Draught Bass
