Social Secretary Report – June 2015

Beer Survey Trips

13 members, including two newcomers, and one guest (visiting from Germany) went on the survey trip on Saturday 13th June. We visited the Blue Bell at South Wingfield, the White Hart at Moorwood Moor, South Wingfield Social Club, the Old Yew Tree at South Wingfield, Amber Hotel at Oakerthorpe and the Steampacket at Swanwick.

We had an unpleasant experience at the Anchor Inn, Oakerthorpe, which was to be our first stop – the barman said he wouldn’t serve a coach party.  He said when we called last year he shouldn’t have served us at it is their policy not to serve coach parties unless they ring beforehand to let them know they are coming.  We pointed out that there were only 14 of us, he had no customers at all in the bar and only four people having a meal, but he was adamant so we left, all quite nonplussed by his attitude.

The White Hart on the other hand was very busy with a wedding party, a 40th birthday party and other people eating in the restaurant, but still managed to serve us all with a smile.

It was the first time we had caught the Old Yew Tree open for business for the last couple of years and we were pleased to find it very busy with a good atmosphere and everyone enjoying a duo called Doublecross.

The following beers were noted –

Blue Bell – Brampton India Star IPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Courage Directors, Stancill India Ruby IPA (£1.95 a pint)

White Hart – Sharp’s Doom Bar, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Blue Monkey B G Sips, Dancing Duck Aye Up

South Wingfield Social Club – Sharp’s Doom Bar and Rockpool

Old Yew Tree – Ashover Light Rail, Navigation Mayflower Mild, Draught Bass + 2 ciders (Old Rosie and Lily the Pink)

Amber Hotel – Shepherd Neames Spitfire, St Austell Proper Job

Steampacket – Jennings Cocker Hoop, Bishops Finger, Youngs Special, Ringwood Boondoggle, Batemans Valiant, Falstaff James Whistler + 4 ciders ( Devon Mist, Cheddar Valley, Boxing Dog, Fiery Fox)

The next survey trip will be on Saturday 18th July and there are currently seats available.
